 Raindance Mexico was born in 2012 as an exchange programme dedicated to promote the Mexican film industry in London and the Raindance Film Festival in Mexican territory. 

In 2015, as part of the diplomatic celebration of the Dual Year Mexico – United Kingdom, Raindance Mexico presented the first Co-production Forum Mexico - UK, through a unique partnership between Raindance, Variety Magazine and the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG).

The presentation of the project’s first stage was held at the beginning of 2019 in Casa Dos Corazones, Cholula, Mexico. The aim is to study a series of confronted discourses and shared problems in different latitudes within the artistic field. Correspondences is organized in several volumes focused on multidisciplinary cases of study in collaboration with curators, artists and institutions in the cultural and scientific realm. Transatlantic Project is the first volume of Correspondence and is a collaboration between Mariela Velasco, director of Botánica de Proyectos, and curator Paola Marugán. This film programme is planned to be presented as part of the International Day of the Girl commemoration, which takes place every 11th of October. The residence has been an opportunity to imagine, share and exchange ideas to be transformed into concrete life tools for many girls in Mexico. Volumen I: Proyecto Trasatlántico Proyecto Trasatlántico es una investigación a cargo de Mariela Velasco y Paola Marugán, forma parte del Laboratorio de Botánica de Proyectos. La presentación de la primera fase de investigación se llevó a cabo a inicios de 2019 en Casa Dos Corazones, Cholula, México. Servicios: Curaduría e Investigación Correspondencias es un proyecto en desarrollo que forma parte del Laboratorio de Botánica de Proyectos. El objetivo es estudiar una serie de discursos encontrados y problemáticas compartidas en diversas latitudes dentro del ámbito artístico. Correspondencias cuenta con diversos volúmenes dedicados a estudiar diferentes casos de estudio de carácter multidisciplinar en colaboración con curadores, artistas e instituciones del ámbito cultural y científico. Proyecto Trasatlántico es el primer volumen de Correspondencias, una colaboración entre Mariela Velasco directora de Botánica de Proyectos, y la curadora Paola Marugán. Haciendo eco de un interés auto-referencial y cuestionando diversos procesos de adaptación, la investigación explora los conceptos “subjetividad” y “límites” a través de la obra de diversas artistas, en su mayoría mujeres, que trabajan con temas como: cuerpo, identidad, memoria y auto-representación. Se graduó con honores del Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica y su trabajo lo ha llevado a recorrer gran parte de México abordando diversas realidades e historias de actualidad en el país. Obtuvo una mención honorífica en el FICG 21º con su cortomentraje “Capillus” y fue finalista en el GIFF 17° con su guión de largometraje “El Observante”, lo cual le otorgó el derecho a participar en la plataforma para guionistas The Black List. Su participación en la producción de películas como "Cochochi" de Laura Amelia Guzmán e Israel Cárdenas y “Corazón del tiempo” de Alberto Cortés, lo llevaron a acercarse al género documental. Es también coautor del guión de la película “Campeona sin Corona” dirigida por Alan Coton, director de la serie juvenil “Yo soy yo” y director de la segunda unidad de la serie “Crónica de Castas” de Daniel Giménez Cacho, ambas producciones para Canal Once. En el ámbito documental ha participado como director de diversos contenidos, entre ellos, su ópera prima “Una Isla en el Continente” (link a blog), las series de televisión “Misterios del Inframundo” para Nat Geo y “La Senda del Agua” para Canal 14. Su narrativa documental suele construirse a partir de diversas perspectivas y microhistorias, para mostrar aquello que hace un cosmos único. Este programa de cine está planeado para ser presentado en el marco del Día Internacional de la Niña, conmemorado por la ONU cada 11 de Octubre. La residencia ha funcionado como un periodo para imaginar, compartir e intercambiar ideas que puedan transformarse en herramientas concretas para la vida de muchas niñas en México. En 2014 realizó el Máster en Documental de Creación de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Vivió en España durante seis años donde trabajó en el área de desarrollo e investigación en proyectos de renombrados directores catalanes como Lluís Galter, Neus Ballús y Carla Simón. También ha sido co-productora de trabajos como el mediometraje documental La Concorrente (España - Italia, 2016) del director Alberto Diana y el cortometraje La Banquisa (México - España, 2022) de Sergio H. Martín. Toloriu, su primer largometraje documental de producción española fue estrenado en la sección oficial del 23 Festival de Málaga. Se trata de un documental personal que reflexiona en torno a temas como el origen, la pertenencia y la migración contemporánea. Estas mismas inquietudes las retoma en Los Espejos, cortometraje de ficción que se encuentra en postproducción y ganador del apoyo para la producción de cortometrajes de PROCINE Ciudad de México. Está protagonizado por Tania Noriega y Aida López. Actualmente forma parte del equipo de desarrollo de series y películas para Paramount México y trabaja en el guion de su primer largometraje de ficción. Su trabajo se caracteriza por un estilo narrativo principalmente autorreferencial y por evidenciar temáticas de perspectiva de género. Ha dirigido videoclips de la escena indie y series documentales como “Amor y Amistad” para Canal Once. Nominado a “Mejor Video Musical” en el Festival Pantalla de Cristal y beneficiario del FONCA en 2022. Su corto “Machos” formó parte de la selección oficial de Ambulante y MIC Género. Actualmente es director y fundador de la casa productora Little Bros, docente de la Asociación Mexicana de Cineastas Independientes (AMCI) y alumno del “Diplomado en Escritura” de la Sociedad General de Escritores de México (SOGEM). Su más reciente creación documental, “El Último Round”, recibió el estímulo Jóvenes Creadores SACPC 2021 – 2022 (antes FONCA). Graduada en Comunicación por la Universidad Iberoamericana con especialización en cine y Máster de Guion de Largometraje por la Universidad Menéndez Pelayo con beca Ibermedia. Acreedora a múltiples premios y apoyos destacando el Primer Concurso Nacional de Proyectos de Cortometraje de IMCINE, el cual le permitió dirigir su ópera prima “Veneno” (2002), nominada también a las Diosas de Plata por “Que Vivan los Novios” (2017) como mejor cortometraje del año. Actualmente, Montserrat Larqué trabaja en su primera serie “In Vitro” la cual fue ganadora del Fondo Fílmico Gabriel Figueroa del Festival de Cine de Los Cabos y también en el largometraje “Violetas en la Cueva” con Elsa Reyes como productora desde Zensky Cine en México. Su primer largometraje “Allá, Cartas al Corazón” tuvo su estreno en el FICG 2023.
